so here we are presenting two live radio sets for the stars end 'space camp'. this was a very special event for our great friend chuck van zyl as he celebrates 50 years of his amazing radio show. we were honoured to perform the last in a month long series of worldwide remote concerts. we'd talked of doing a session for stars end from north yorkshire, and now here it was finally a reality.

the dawn in yorkshire is still the middle of the night over there, 5 hours behind, and we had to start very quietly on account of the neighbours anyway, which gave it a lovely hushed feeling of restraint and stillness in the room we were performing in. and in all of our collective years together there has been only one occasion when we have been performing at 7am. (we were 17)

so, it was quite a thing. a very gradual first set which built beautifully and then a break for breakfast, and back into the morning for a second set. a second hour having cleared the decks for another improvisation, a quick interview for the youtube feed and all before we'd normally even be getting out of bed on a sunday.

it felt very special. i hope it sounds special too. there's a reverence about it worthy of a sunday morning. church bells, choirs, stillness as we looked out to the cows dotted around the immediate environment and hilarity as they started making a noise, luckily not captured.

all in all, quite an experience and i hope one we will repeat.

tech note: this is taken and mixed from rmi's own recording, so it may well include extended musical intros and outros not broadcast on air.

radio massacre international's sound defies categorization it is more magical than musical. the music is, first and foremost, improvisational. it is loose in structure but also searching. r.m,i. is all about generating the happy accidents that occur at the ever-changing intersection of multiple moving bodies. when two sequences converge fascinating things happen opening rhythmic and textural options that just moments before were closed to view. it is the creation and exploration of those options that dominates what r.m,i. does in its music.
